A moment ago, we had 115 guests online.  I've never seen it above the 40's.

I've seen it get up into the 60s and higher. Never 232. I'm surprised we never got dugg though.

Hint: Simon, get something digg-worthy on here pronto

    Or better still, slashdot worthy!

digg-worthy isn't a big honor, but it sure does rake in the hits... and it is easier to attain than slashdot-worthiness

The article on intelligent life has 3000+ views. Some fairly popular sites must be linking to that article.

    Simon,

Is it possible to bring the views column back on line. It's very helpful to see how values like that are progressing, there aren't more than a handful of active members on the threads in a given few days, don't like the idea of just talking to myself when I post.

    Thanks.

Chironian, what exactly, do you mean by "views column?"

    Hello,

Oh. Right next the "number of replies" column in the thread list, which currently shows 8 for this thread, there was a "views column" before the last. um. upgrade. I'd be most helpful if a second column showed the number of hits by different viewers, "hits" that each thread has.  Which is to say, I'll go into the thread 15 times when posting actively, but would only want to register 15,001 for all of those hits in the thread by me alone. I should not bump the views count up after my first view. As it counted views before, the 15,000 might indicate just a few hundred unique viewers.

The number of people on line was above 300 recently, too.

Which is a big success, especially if they are larnin' anythang. There's quite of bit of lag time, weeks or months even, for my messages to really sink in with a lot people. I've also got my own forum to consider, too. Which'll focus more on cultural advancement w/ or w/out the use of fancy technology, and at the start will have more to do with unlarnin' them thar knarly human couch potatoes than anything else.

    good luck,

    neil

Brian, "popular" means 50,000+ views in a week or couple days, not 3000+ views over the course of a month or more.  ;)

I'm pretty sure he meant popular when compared to the typical traffic for the site.

It's been growing lately as well.  230 at the time of this post which is pretty impressive seeing as how I work nights and am about to go to sleep.

Michael does make a good point about our lack of popularity though. We really need to promote ourselves better. We need to try to appear on digg.com or slashdot.com

I'm all for discussing promotional ideas. I don't think we can rely on Slashdot or Digg, however, because those gains tend to be short-lived. (BH has been Dugg and Slashdotted before; we get a big spike in traffic, but it's not sustained.) I have a few thoughts in this area, including (1) creating some unique, viral feature on the site such as a longevity quiz and (2) encouraging people to refer others to the site through a linking competition (something like the SuicideGirls Army).

Two words:  Myspace page.  I'm pretty sure it's become the most useful networking tool on the net.
