It never ceases to amaze me that as you age, you seem to pick up new medical problems. I have always believed in having a list of a number of medical specialists just in case one can't help me, I always consult with someone else.
Case in point. For the past two weeks, I have been having eye irritations, burning sensations and generally being very uncomfortable. I let it go for a period of two weeks but finally I had to see a medical person. I had a long list of possible and I chose my optometrist first of all. I have been her client for about 20 years and she is certainly a person of trust. After making an appointment with her, she saw me and it took all of 15 minutes for the diagnosis. Basically it was a "dry eyes" condition which was solved by her giving me a sample of some new dry eye medication samples. It worked within the first 30 minutes my troublesome condition was now "back to normal". In this case, my first choice from a long list of medical practitioners. Had I gone to my doctor, he would have referred me to a specialist which would have taken me another 3 months for an appointment.
So the moral of this story is to have a list of mediacal professionals that you trust and use your best judgement in selecting the appropriate one for your problem(s).
