    How we get used to Cyborgs...

    I read the very interesting article in last month's Wired describing the writer's experience of getting a brain implant to combat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

    I kind of expect that sort of thing in Wired, but a few days later I ran across this first article of a series in the Vancouver Sun about a woman about to go through the whole thing -- the paper will be documenting the whole process.

    I think it's wonderful that there is the beginning an effective treatment for Parkinson's (or at least the symptoms.) Beyond that, I find it very interesting how the media and medical establishment are normalizing computerized brain implants -- in the articles they're seen in a very positive light.

    What do you all think is the significance of this kind of coverage? My own sense is that it's part of the general trend of tranhumanist ideas being seamlessly incorporated into society. Where do you think this kind of thing is likely to go in five or ten years?
