Hello im pete, i just joined your rosetta team. simple reason. rumer is the 360 will support it soon so i figured i would start on my pc. i have ben folding since the beging. i have about 4 rigs folding besides my main. i just switched my main over to rosetta. i will be keeping the other rigs folding as they are part of my main forum speedguide.net but you have my main P4 3.06 for now. im not goigng to be a hit and run guy. wont post much either. you just happen to be the first team i read about when i was looking up info about this project. so lucky you :thumb:

anyways. have a good one. and go team lol

Wanted to extend a welcome to new team member Jons, in case he should find time to join the forum.

Betterhumans member and Rosetta@home team mate EmbraceUnity has written an insightful piece on decentralization, open source, p2p, and  distributed computing which specifically mentions protein folding and Rosetta@home. Go to the IEET website and check it out!

And, WOW, Jons, our new Rosetta@home team member now contributes more than half of the team's compute cycles. I am kind of curious what all those potent multi-core servers are doing while they are not crunching Rosetta units (if it's not confidential, that is...). So, welcome to the team, Jons, also from here!

Ahoy humanists! Let me take a minute to introduce myself. I am Godcopp AKA CyberMancer a scout for the OCDistributed pirate fleet.

In six days hence, the OCD Rosetta@home team will overtake your team and pass you on our way to total Rosetta@home domination. Following the pirate's code we offer you the chance to surrender peacefully and watch us sail on by. But put up a fight you may and if so we'll pull out the heavy artillery. We will win, of that there is no doubt.

It's nothing personal, it's just what we do. So raise your white flag and wave as we pass.

Great job in Rosetta Betterhumans!  As Cybermancer noted, you're about to be past by the Pirates of OCDistributed. This is a boarding! You may wish to battle it out by bringing ships to your aid or OC the dickens out of the ships you have. (ships=CPU) Rock on OCD!

Baker lab enzyme engineering breaktrough reported in Nature!

Have a look at this news item on the Nature News Web site, reporting on the first ever successful design of working enzymes, catalyzing novel chemical reactions, by David Baker's group (the actual Nature journal article will only be available by subscripton).

Also, the publications page on the Baker lab Web site has been updated. to include a full list of their 2007 research papers (follow the links to read the abstracts of the journal articles).

It is amazing how the Baker lab team manages to produce a string of high profile papers and breakthroughs with the help of our donated Rosetta@home compute cycles. And in addition to the cool science, we can of course also have some  fun by a bit of friendly competition and team spirit. Keep on crunching!

Yes, indeed that is our intent. Usually our "boarding parties" stimulate an increase in production which ultimately benefits the project.

Please note: If you find our links and visit our forum in response. Be prepared we are a rowdy, boisterous group and as the title "pirates" would suggest a bit irregular.

Better Humans...? Is that even possible? How about better pirates? Oh wait... do we pirates what to be better? Naw...

We crunch... we board, we wave goodbye... Ha Ha

    Arrrrrggggggghhhhhh

They're better 'cause the take lots of herbs and vitamins and stuff like that.

Pirates are lucky if they get their gruel and rum. The captains gotta put lime juice in our rum to make us drink it!!  Scurvy does'nt scare me!!

Well I say we're better! We know our ship are better for sure!!

I couldn't even use my real name, Godcopp, here. You people fraid of a little divinity??

    Technology Review:
Enzymes built from scratch: Baker lab engineers new catalysts!

Check out the above Technology Review article describing the recent successes of the Baker lab with engineering novel enzymes that has just been published in the journal Science - in my previous post I had erroneously assumed that this new research would be published in Nature (sorry for the misinformation).

Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research News: Building Enzymes from Scratch

Have a look at the above article describing the latest research on enzyme design by Baker lab and collaborators.  The article specifically mentions the help from the 190,000 strong Rosetta@home community which made this research possible! This is another proof that your donated compute cycles are put to good use. Keep on crunching!

    Hi all

David Baker has asked for more computing power on Ralph@home (Rosetta@home alpha testing) for the next couple of weeks. See his latest post in the Rosetta@home journal. I therefore re-attached to Ralph and increased my resource share there. I also created a betterhumans.com team on Ralph. Feel free to join me there...
