Betterhumans is a membership-driven website that relies on the efforts of members for success. While all members can contribute through blog posts, forum posts and other such contributions (such as word-of-mouth marketing--tell your friends!), we rely on several members to take on additional responsibilities. All members are invited to volunteer for open positions below. Volunteers are eligible to receive a Betterhumans email address, access to staff forums, and other benefits--including greater involvement in steering a course for Betterhumans and, ultimately, humanity.
Executive
Editor-in-chief (filled)
Description: Drive Betterhumans' success through successful and innovative content creation, design, production, planning, coordination and staffing.
Duties:
- Oversee quality of all areas of the site.
- Develop and maintain all site policies, rules, staff conduct, member conduct, and visitor access.
- Generate new ideas and projects of interest to site members and visitors.
- Assist staff in day-to-day functions, as well as long-term goals.
- Assume final authority for all matters related to the Betterhumans site, content, name, image, and policies.
- Motivate staff, site members and the general public to meet ideals for which Betterhumans stands.
- Represent Betterhumans to the media as required.
Deputy Editor (filled)
Description: Advise and aid Editor-in-chief in all editorial duties, originate ideas, gather and commission contributions.
Duties:
- Assist Editor-in-chief with development of site policies, content, and strategic direction.
- Generate new ideas and projects of interest to site members and visitors.
- Assist staff in day-to-day functions, as well as long-term goals.
- Manage staff, projects and production schedules.
- Assume duties of the Editor-in-chief as required .
- Represent Betterhumans to the media as required.
Editorial
Editorial Assistant (filled)
Description: Assist the Editor-in-chief and Deputy Editor in carrying out editorial and administrative tasks.
Duties:
- Contribute to the creation and management of website content.
- Aid in the development of new site features and functionality.
- Spur member participation in forums, blogs and other areas of user-generated content.
- Uphold editorial integrity, accuracy and overall quality.
- Carry out tasks as requested by Editor-in-chief or Deputy Editor.
News Editor (open)
Description: Develop Betterhumans into a leading resource for breaking news of meaningful scientific and technological advances
Duties:
- Enhance Betterhumans news production with diverse resources and lessen reliance on lower quality automated feeds.
- Monitor news feeds to ensure quality and eliminate duplication.
- Post original contributions and summaries.
- Categorize news items with consistent, meaningful and useful tags .
Features Editor (open)
Description: Augment Betterhumans content and discussions through the production of original, high-quality, feature-length articles.
Duties:
- Developing ideas for feature articles.
- Commissioning, writing, and editing professional-quality feature articles, including citation/links for all sources.
- Coordinating community interviews with various leaders in scientific fields.
Featured Blogger (open)
Description: Provide elevated commentary and spur thinking and discussion with high-quality, insightful, authoritative, expert opinion and alternative perspective; reserved for forward thinkers who are well-known professional bloggers or authors, are prominent figures in the broader scientific futurist movement, or are outstanding Betterhumans content contributors.
Duties:
- Make at least two featured blog posts per month.
- Strive for highly original, insightful, accessible, readable and compelling contributions.
- Motivate discussion about issues related to (1) personal, societal and species progress; (2) the impact and ethics of advances in science and technology; and (3) other subjects related to Betterhumans' mandate and mission.
Forum Moderators (filled)
Description: Facilitate and ensure the submission of relevant, useful, and intelligent forum posts in an organized fashion.
Duties:
- Move discussions to more appropriate forum locations.
- Delete "flaming" submissions (comments/posts/blogs that contain insults, spam, garbled text, etc).
- Update "moderator log" with all actions taken.
- Answer questions concerning what is acceptable behavior.
- Assist with the tagging of posts as appropriate to improve organization and searchability.
Arts and multimedia
Arts Editor (open)
Description: Supplement Betterhumans textual content with superior art and graphics.
Duties:
- Curate multimedia gallery (currently comprising visual art only).
- Keep community apprised of important art and artistic events related to Betterhumans' themes.
- Develop and maintain relationships with relevant artistic organizations and artists.
- Drive Betterhumans to feature and express leading-edge graphic design trends reflective of its mandate and mission.
Marketing
Marketing Manager (filled)
Description: Coordinating with the EIC, manage and maintain all marketing, advertising, and promotional activities of the site.
Duties:
- Develop marketing campaigns to increase site traffic.
- Analyze and develop new sources for internal revenue streams (advertising, etc.).
- Develop promotional activities for the site to increase member contributions and involvement.
- Assist Editor-in-chief in securing media coverage.
Activism
Change Leader (open)
Description: Manage and contribute to an activism project sponsored by Betterhumans.
Duties:
- Spearhead and motivate positive change related to Betterhumans' mandate and mission.
- Coordinate with internal staff development of project.
- Coordinate with external organizations any necessary actions.
- Encourage/facilitate member involvement in the project.
- Answer questions concerning the project.
Technical Development
Technical Lead (open)
Description: Manage and contribute to Betterhumans' technical enhancements
Duties:
- Propose and contribute to the development and integration of technological solutions that help fulfill Betterhumans' mandate and mission.
- Coordinate with internal staff development of project.
- Coordinate with external organizations any necessary actions/permissions.
