Self-Improving AI: Designing 2030

In this session of the 2007 Foresight Vision Weekend, Self-Aware Systems founder Stephen Omohundro leads a discussion in which we will try to design the year 2030 assuming that we have both self-improving artificial intelligence and productive nanotechnology. We'll consider some of the likely characteristics of these technologies such as drives toward efficiency, self-preservation, resource acquisition, and creativity. We'll consider some of the benefits and dangers of this technology. Then we'll try to design social rights and obligations that provide the benefits while preventing the dangers.
